Why Fake Wheels Are a Real Problem

We all like a bargain. If we see two versions of the same product with no discernible differences in quality but vastly contrasting prices, we’ll inevitably go with the cheaper one. With some products, it makes perfect sense to choose the lower-cost option when the quality of the product is trivial. When it comes to choosing a set of wheels for your car, though, ask yourself if the cheaper option seems too good to be true – because it probably is.

With road deaths a tragically daily occurrence, a no-risk attitude to road safety should be ingrained in our mindsets. There are some things in life where we can justifiably cut corners, but road safety is definitely not one of them. If you wilfully take chances with the safety of your vehicle just to save a bit of cash, you’re taking every bit as much of a risk as if you deliberately drove at a high speed while intoxicated.

This infographic from First Aid Wheels starkly highlights the clear and present dangers of fake wheels, which are generally produced in a rushed, unprofessional manner with the sole intention of making a quick buck for somebody. They are not subjected to the rigorous safety testing that is routinely carried out on genuine wheels, while the manufacturers won’t pay for the quality of materials that wheels should incorporate and usually lack the expertise to make safety-compliant wheels.

The message could not be clearer: if you play with fire, you’ll get burnt. If you take a chance on fake wheels because you want to save a few bucks, you’re playing Russian roulette with your own safety and that of any passengers in your car. Leave the bargain-seeking for other purchases and invest in a set of wheels that come with quality assured.
