Meet Allie and Jamie Darr, a sister-in-law duo, married to identical twins and looking to change the way women look and feel about health, fitness and everything in between- not only for themselves, but for their children and spouses as well. “There is so much judgement surrounding what people should look like nowadays. We want to create a community of women supporting each other instead of bashing each other,” says the Darr Duo about The Real Healthwives.
Don’t let the name throw you off, these two won’t be pushing kale chips down your throat or telling you not to indulge in that piece of chocolate here and there. So, what will they be doing? They will encourage you, share with you, and help you become the best version of you. Their goal is to create a healthy outlet where all the Mrs.’s can gather to help each other, share their stories and be there to support each other on their journey to a healthy life. As these ladies say, “Healthy wives, Healthy lives.” It doesn’t stop there, their blog is family oriented, and will feature workout tips, reviews on popular workout challenges, healthy recipes, tips on creating a healthy marriage, tips on having healthy kids and some fashion tips as well. Phew! If you aren’t intrigued yet, keep reading! (Well, keep reading any way ;))
Below we will give you an inside scoop on the ladies behind the blog, we want to make you feel comfortable and know that this is THE outlet for moms to turn to. Check them out here and be sure to join the conversation on Facebook!
Allie Darr is a mom of 4 boys, Vincent (5), Luke (3), Jude (2), Sam (4mos) and Jamie is mother of 5 month old, Nicholas. These women have used their own triumphs and tribulations to get on this journey of helping themselves, and others live a healthy life. “It is so important to not lose yourself in the throes of motherhood and to keep focus on something that makes you happy. Whether that be working out, cooking meals or a hobby. Doing something for yourself each day or week will make you a better mother and wife,” says Allie, and that is exactly what The Real Healthwives does for women. All wives, and moms know that not everyday will be easy, but each one will be eternally worth it. Jamie knows that the way we think and act effects not only us but our loved ones as well, “I believe it is important for moms to have time for themselves because this allows us to recharge and take a breath! Our stress can take a toll on us, as well as our loved ones. Those nearest and dearest to us deserve our personal best, even the champions of the world need time for themselves to rest, recover, and get back out there!”
These moms know the importance of maintaining their health not only for themselves, but their children and husbands. They share advice as simple as “how do you avoid snacking when kids are snacking ALL the time?”
Jamie says, “I read somewhere that moms tend to add on calories by “snacking” because they eat a little bit of each snack they give to their child and families. With this in mind, the main thing I do to stop over-snacking is try to be very mindful when snacks are around. I see snacks as temptations that I need to defeat! I practice self-control as best as I can when scrumptious snacks are available to me,” and Allie isn’t afraid to admit when she, like every normal human, has an “off day” sharing with the blog the other day, “Well I had said Monday that I was doing a 3 day cleanse….All was great until a visit with the boys and great grandma to Chick-fil-A! Hence reasons why I stay away from there, I tried to be good and get a salad because it was my final cleanse day and you are to do salad for dinner with chicken, so of course I was stretching the rules here….but then the boys fries and nuggets were eyeballing me and then the milkshake….their cookies and cream milkshake is so freaking good, how could I say no!!! So day 3 was a fail!! Upside is that I did lose 2.5lbs!! Heck yes!!! I will be doing it again but will make sure we have no family plans!!! haha!! Such is life, the moral of the story is DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP over hiccups, it is what is is!! Sure I cheated and bent the rules, and guess what….IT’S FINE. Life will still go on!! Give yourself a break here and there! Damn that milkshake tasted great, I will live to cleanse another day my friends Happy Thursday!!”
I hope you will use this resource as a fun way to interact with people facing the same things as you, whether it be weight loss, struggling with the right foods to feed your family, or just a way to “meet” the women around you. “Go with the flow. Some days you may rock at life and others might be a complete and utter train wreck. Laugh at the madness and move on. Tomorrow is a new day, always,” says Allie, setting the tone for The Real Healthwives.
Spontaneity is something that happens in life every day, so I took that approach & asked the ladies some random questions including, “what is something most people don’t know about you?”
Allie: “I honestly hate working out, okay I will rephrase. I used to hate working out, now that I found a program that is quick and works it’s much more enjoyable!”
Jamie: “Most people don’t know that I LOVE (perhaps am addicted to) lemons…lemon wedges, lemon juice, anything that has lemon added to it!”
This is just an example of how the conversations on their blog will cover EVERYTHING from lemon addictions to finding a way to actually enjoy working out!
The Darr Duo gave us their favorite recipes, and there are PLENTY more on their site!
Allie’s Favorite Recipe:
Crock Pot Pulled Pork
We are big crock potters in this house to save time and sanity.
Turn your crock pot on high, plop in a pork roast, top with diced cilantro and 1/4 cup of Stubb’s Pork Marinade.
Let that baby cook all day. Serve as is or with BBQ sauce!
Jamie’s Favorite Recipe:
