Let’s Dish: Mercat a la Planxa

Whether you’ve been shopping all day, are dressed up to head to the theatre, or are simply looking for a new place to try this winter, Mercat is the spot. Conveniently located on Michigan Avenue, you can tuck yourself away at the bar, or head upstairs for a dining experience that will bring you the taste of the Mediterranean. Not only do the dishes not disappoint, but the service is impeccable. Even during the hustle and bustle of the Holiday’s, you are greeted just the way you would hope to be, with manners and energy.

If you are a wine drinker, this is a fantastic spot to taste some of the best Spanish wines around. Their wine and drink list is nothing short of intriguing, and the servers have plentiful suggestions. If you are looking to pair your wine with a brilliant dinner, we suggest the Chef’s Wine Tasting Flight ($20) for ultimate appeal. If you are not a wine drinker, Mercat offers some amazing cocktails, beer and ciders. (Even if you do enjoy your wine, we suggest trying one of the Mercat Cocktails as well!)

We like to take traditional dishes and update them with unique ingredients and modern cooking techniques. Our inspiration comes from the beautiful products we both import from Spain and purchase here in Chicago.

What is the best compliment you could receive as a chef?

It is always great when any of our guests that have been to Spain tell us that the food we are making here is just as good and even better than what they experienced while in the Catalan region.
