Let’s Dish: Barcocina

Your new summer spot has just opened! Barcocina, 2901 N Sheffield, is a much needed hotspot in the Lakeview area just off of the Wellington Brown Line stop. Look for modern takes on Mexican-inspired dishes from Hogsalt veteran Chef Matt Williams and a craft cocktail program that offers three of my favorite categories – spicy, smoky and sweet.

A highlight of the cocktail menu is their Summer Margarita, which features a delicious mix of Milagro Silver Tequila, basil and muddled berries. It comes out Instagram ready with a pretty pink color and is way too drinkable. Other favorites include the Blackberry Sangria (with Malbec!) and the Basil Bramble, which has fantastic bite from their jalapeno simple syrup.

Sharing is the best way to go at Barcocina as the menu is coursed and comes out as it’s ready. Look for interesting twists on standard Mexican fare with Lobster Guacamole, Duck Confit Arepas, Yucca Tots, Crispy Brussel Sprouts with red mole and more.

If you still have room for something sweet, be sure to check out their Dessert cocktail menu, which features four different Horchatas! I have a feeling that the Irish Horchata with Jameson will do well in this area.

The space, which is huge, offers a relaxed yet lively vibe with walls lined with garage doors, bringing the outside in. The Rustic reclaimed wood, warm lighting and cozy fireplaces make it perfect for chilly summer nights and will be a destination come fall.

Look for brunch to start Saturday, June 20 from 10am-3pm.
