Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, Walland will be by your side like a lasting love.
India’s life has always gone according to plan. But when she decides to call off her high-profile wedding and take time off from her network television job, everything turns upside down. Tranquil Blackberry Farm in the moody Smoky Mountains of Tennessee was supposed to be a place she could hide out and lick her wounds. Instead, she finds herself questioning everything she ever thought she wanted. Wyatt is a man with scars that run deep. He’s built a careful life for himself, and he has no intention of letting anyone get close to him . . . again. But what happens when two people who are running away from love run right into one another? Will the intense chemistry they feel be enough to overpower their fears? Or will their time together in the Smoky Mountains end with broken hearts?
Andrea spoke with us for a special Valentine’s Day special feature. She talks all things Walland, and about her own forever love, retired MLB star, Jim.
We know the setting of Walland means a lot to you — can you explain in more detail for our readers?
Both Jim and I grew up in areas that had lots of green space, so I guess that is what appeals to us most about Walland. It’s a place you can go to find some honest to goodness peace and quiet. Not only is the landscape serene and beautiful, but the people that live in and around that area are so warm and welcoming. To borrow from John Denver, the first time I visited, it was like going home to a place I’d never been before.
What was your inspiration behind Walland?
My inspiration for the book came during one of my many visits to Blackberry Farm, which is the real resort that is setting for the book. I was attending a photo workshop with a dear girlfriend of mine, so that was one of the only times I hadn’t traveled there with my husband. It was a unique perspective to have the chance to really observe other guests, particularly couples, and especially through the lens. I was inspired during those days as an artist and photographer, and the idea for the book was planted like a little seed. Because I was dealing with my mom’s illness and eventual death, it took almost eighteen months for me to sit down and let the words flow onto paper, but once I did, the inspiration was still there, as fresh and new as if I had just been in Walland.
How does it feel to not only get a warm welcoming for the book but to be raising money with proceeds from the book for such great causes?
I’ve been so overwhelmed by the response to the book and thrilled that so many people are excited to read the upcoming sequel, Seeds of Intention, which will be published May 2, 2017. Both were such a joy to write. It’s a very vulnerable thing to share my stories with people, so to have friends and strangers alike respond so positively has been a dream. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to have had a new platform with which to raise funds for organizations important to us. As a result of each of my book signings, locally and in other areas, I’ve donated all of the proceeds to various organizations that do meaningful work to help those who need it. Jim and I have always felt that there is no reason to have the spotlight if you’re not going to stand next to someone who genuinely needs the help, so it’s a privilege to be able to bring awareness to those in need.

What is your favorite Valentines Day memory? Maybe a tradition?
One of my favorite Valentines Day memories with Jim was spending a rare off day during Spring Training in Florida together before we had kids at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. I still have the picture of the two of us with Mickey Mouse, and we look like a couple of teenagers! (I was wearing a denim vest! Yikes!) We’ve gone back since then with our own two children a couple of times, and it always reminds me of that day almost 20 years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun. I’ve got the best Valentine in the world.
